We’re Opening Our Third Citybox Hotel in Bergen

Citybox has signed an agreement with Odfjell Eiendom to develop a new 170-room hotel at Sandbrogaten 5 and Øvre Dreggsallmenningen 6 in Bergen. The property offers a rare and highly attractive location just steps from the UNESCO-listed Bryggen area, and the hotel is currently planned to open in 2027.
The new hotel will become Citybox’s third property in Bergen. With nearly 20 years of experience operating in the city, the company knows the market well and continues to see strong demand for centrally located, affordable accommodation. Several years of solid growth in both occupancy and RevPAR underline Bergen’s position as one of Norway’s most attractive hotel markets.
Thanks to its prime location only meters from Bryggen, the hotel will serve as a prominent new addition to the city’s hospitality landscape and urban life. Opening is tentatively scheduled for 2027.
“Bergen has been one of our most important markets ever since we opened our first hotel here nearly 20 years ago, and we know the market extremely well. In recent years, the city has delivered very strong results, with growth in both occupancy and RevPAR, and we see a clear increase in demand for smart and affordable hotel options. The timing is therefore right for us to strengthen our position further. The location just behind Bryggen is truly unique, and we are delighted to develop our third hotel in the city together with Odfjell Eiendom – and we look forward to a long and successful partnership,” says Eivind Hjulstad, CEO of Citybox.
The hotel will be developed according to the Citybox concept, which combines self-service check-in, functional rooms, modern design and highly efficient operations — allowing the company to offer low prices without compromising on quality or location.
The project is still in its early stages, and several elements and municipal approvals remain before the final start date for construction and opening date can be determined. The ambition is to open the doors in 2027.
“As a long-term property owner, it is important for us to develop buildings that contribute positively to the city. Bergen’s hotel market has shown strong growth, and we believe the Citybox concept fits this segment exceptionally well. Together with Citybox, we aim to create a modern and accessible hotel offering at one of Bergen’s most attractive addresses,” says Rasmus Haugland, co-owner of the Haugland Group.
