Host Manager Bergen

Host manager helping host in Citybox Bergen

About the job

Do you want to lead the team that makes sure our guests have a great stay at the hotel where Citybox began?

Citybox Bergen is where it all started. What was once a small summer hotel is now a cozy hotel with 120 rooms, and the first of what will soon be eleven Citybox hotels. This is where we removed the traditional reception desk and let guests check in and out themselves. Today, that’s at the heart of our concept.

A little different – and that’s intentional
At Citybox, we don’t have a traditional reception desk. Instead, we have a Host Office. That doesn’t mean less service. It means providing service when it’s actually needed. Our Hosts keep the hotel running smoothly, handle whatever comes up, and are there when guests need help.

About the role
As Host Manager, you are the Hotel Manager’s right hand and the leader of the Host team. You’re a hands-on leader who’s present on the floor. You work shifts, meet guests, and solve problems as they happen. You’re also responsible for scheduling, training, follow-up, and routines. You set the standard for how we take care of our guests and each other.

Working hours
You’ll mainly work day shifts, but you’ll also cover evening, weekend, and night shifts when needed. You share on-call duties with the Hotel Manager and are on duty every other weekend. The hotel is open year-round, including public holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the team of Hosts
  • Work shifts as a Host and be a visible leader on the floor
  • Recruit and train new Hosts together with the Hotel Manager, and conduct performance and development reviews
  • Manage bookings and invoicing, and respond promptly to guest inquiries
  • Prepare arrivals for groups, returning guests and special requests, and handle upgrades and overbookings
  • Take responsibility for guest feedback: respond to reviews and turn complaints into improvements
  • Keep routines, internal controls and safety procedures up to date
  • Step in for the Hotel Manager when needed

What should you know?
This isn’t a desk job. You’ll spend a lot of time on the floor, and no two days are the same. Sometimes you’ll need to handle noise, disturbances, or guests who require extra attention. When you’re on duty, you’re the person the team calls if they need help. That’s why it’s important that you’re confident, able to make decisions, and comfortable setting boundaries in a calm and respectful way.

What do we offer?
If you already have leadership experience, you’ll get to use it in a role with plenty of responsibility. If you have leadership potential, this could be your first management role. Either way, you’ll have the Hotel Manager close by for support, and you’ll become part of a growing hotel chain with soon-to-be eleven hotels.

What we are looking for

  • Has at least two years of experience working in hotel reception. Leadership experience is a strong advantage, but not a requirement. What matters most is your motivation and ability to lead others
  • Enjoys hands-on work and is comfortable working shifts, including evenings, nights, and weekends
  • Communicates well in both Norwegian and English, written and spoken
  • Is confident using PMS systems (we use Mews) and time and attendance systems (Quinyx)
  • Is organized, detail-oriented and takes initiative without waiting to be asked
  • Makes decisions, solves problems and stays calm under pressure
  • Communicates clearly with guests, colleagues and partners at all levels
  • Has completed upper secondary education. A qualification in hospitality or tourism is an advantage

What we offer

  • Hands-on hotel management experience. You'll work closely with the Hotel Manager and get the opportunity to step in as their deputy
  • Opportunities to grow. We're expanding, and we prefer to recruit internally when new roles and hotels become available
  • An informal and inclusive work environment with colleagues and guests from all over the world
