Meeting room booking made easy


<p><strong>The hotel chain Citybox is launching self-developed check-in terminals in collaboration with tech-company Heisenbug. The terminals, which are designed to manage the guest journey from check-in to check-out, marks another step in Citybox&#8217;s goal to offer the most seamless customer experience in the industry.</strong></p>



<p>It&#8217;s been many years since Citybox was the first hotel chain in Norway to replace the traditional front desk with check-in terminals. Last year, the company launched the first part of its new guest journey as part of a comprehensive rebranding of the company. Now the hotel chain has taken the next step and is launching its own check-in terminals in collaboration with Heisenbug.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Terminals adapted to our guest journey</h2>



<p>-&#8220;Since its inception, Citybox&#8217;s concept has been rooted in the fact that a traditional reception is unnecessary, expensive and an annoying time thief for guests. Over time, we have had different check-in terminals, but now we have finally taken a step further and developed our very own terminals, adapted to our needs and our idea of how the guest journey should be,&#8221; says Eivind Hjulstad, CEO of Citybox.</p>



<p>Technology company Heisenbug has been responsible for the actual development, in close collaboration with Citybox and employees from all departments. The design of the terminal and furniture was done by the hotel chain&#8217;s own Head of Interior &amp; Design, Kristine Holtås.</p>



<p>The terminal currently handles everything from check-in, check-out and payment, as well as enabling luggage storage on both arrival and departure. The terminals also facilitate ID scanning, and further functionalities are already in the pipeline. If guests experience challenges in one of the processes, the terminals themselves notify hotel staff. The aim is for hosts to show up before the guest has even realized that they have a challenge.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Seamless from start to beginning</h2>



<p>These kiosks are more than just check-in; they perform almost every task a traditional front desk does, ensuring a user-friendly experience with associated efficiencies that have been measured and verified to be completed in under 50 seconds. This not only contributes to an improved guest experience, but also to the optimization of hotel operations for Citybox,&#8221; says Tibor Mæhlum, Head of Business at Heisenbug.</p>



<p>With the introduction of new check-in terminals, Citybox builds on its vision to revolutionize the guest experience, a vision that has stood firm since the removal of the traditional front desk. The aim of the project has been to create a terminal that handles the customer journey in a fast and safe way. The current record for check-in is now 43.2 seconds.</p>



<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve looked at every step of a guest journey and compressed it in the most seamless way to give our guests a safe, easy and, not least, super-fast check-in at our hotels. If there was a world record for fast check-in, I&#8217;m sure one of our guests would hold that record,&#8221; says Eivind Hjulstad, CEO of Citybox.</p>



<p>&#8220;Thinking outside the box has led us to set a new standard for efficiency and usability in the check-in process, and this is just the start,&#8221; says Eivind Hjulstad, CEO of Citybox.</p>



<p>The new check-in terminals are in operation at all the hotels, and will also be present at Citybox Stockholm and Citybox Brussels, which are both due to open the summer of 2024.</p>

<p>Welcome to our charming hotel at Danmarksplass in Bergen. Our hotel is the perfect starting point to explore everything Bergen has to offer. With easy access to public transportation and within walking distance for the city center, it&#8217;s easy to explore the citys culture, shopping and local attractions. The hotel is only 35 minutes from Bergen Airport. </p>



<p>From our hotel at Danmarksplass you are surrounded by a number of restaurants, cafés and local stores that gives you a sweet taste of the local atmosphere. In the summertime you can even walk right down to the city beach at Møhlenpris for a quick swim! </p>

<p><strong>Hotel property with 246 rooms in central Brussels. The hotel will be the chain’s second in Belgium and is set to open during the first half of 2024. With the hotels now signed, Citybox Hotels will almost double the number of rooms from 1126 to 2096.</strong></p>



<p>-Signing a hotel of this size and in such a good location in Brussels is a big breakthrough for Citybox Hotels. Finding a property like this is something we have been working on for years. We are very proud of signing Citybox Brussels and that it is happening in collaboration with such a large and professional player as Pandox. Now we can’t wait to bring the Citybox concept to yet another European city, states Martin Smith-Sivertsen, Head Chairman of Citybox Hotels. &nbsp;</p>



<p>“It feels very good to start a cooperation with Citybox. It is an expansive and ambitious operator with a distinct and modern concept in the budget segment. The hotel concept suits the hotel property very well and attracts a different type of demand compared to our other hotels in Brussels. The lease is attractive with good minimum levels and proves well how Pandox’s active model for value creation works in practice”, says Liia Nõu, CEO of Pandox.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Opening in 2024</h3>



<p>Citybox Brussels is the first cooperation between Citybox Hotels and Pandox. The hotel will open in the property currently operated by NH Brussels Louise, which Pandox acquired earlier in 2022. NH will continue to operate the hotel until the start of renovations in April 2023. Renovations will cover all parts of the property, including BREEAM certifications. The hotel is set to open in the first half of 2024 under the Citybox brand. The lease runs over 25 years with an option for a further 10 years.&nbsp; &nbsp;</p>



<p>“This is the first time we will open a hotel without the property being a new build or going through a total renovation. Taking over an existing hotel property enables us to grow more quickly. That makes it easier to fulfil our plan to grow from 6 to 60 hotels. With the signed hotels, we are already at 10, and will go from 1126 to 2096 rooms, says Martin Smith-Sivertsen.&nbsp; &nbsp;</p>



<p>-Our goal is to become one of the leading hotel chains within the budget segment in Europe. With the hotels we currently operate and those we have signed in the Nordic and Benelux countries, we are well on our way, states Smith-Sivertsen.&nbsp; &nbsp;</p>



<p>Citybox Brussels will be the chains second hotel in Belgium after the opening of Citybox Antwerp in August 2021.&nbsp; &nbsp;</p>



<p><em>-We opened Citybox Antwerp in the middle of the pandemic. Despite this, the hotel has delivered great results</em>. <em>We expect to see green numbers in the first full year of operation. So far this year, it has had an occupancy of 72%, which is well above the city average, </em>says Smith-Sivertsen.&nbsp;</p>
